Recent BAC Articles for Canadian Members

From the Officers of BAC Local 4 Quebec
Issue 1 - 2006

This period is very important for your Local, and increasing the membership is essential for us. The goal for this year is two hundred new members. This will allow us to maintain our efficiency, our services, and expand the number of hours our business agents are spending in the field.

From left, top row, Martin Robichaud, new Business Agent for the Quebec area, Normand Fillion, Representative, Claudette Pageau, Secretary, Maurice Mongeon, former Business Manager and new President. Bottom row, from left, Luc Lemieux, new Business Agent for the Montreal area, and Jeannot Levasseur, new Business Manager of Local 4.

Yes! You can do something. We are all part of the same team, and communication is the key to success. If you need help, call us, we will be glad to go and see you on site.

Local 4 members Luc Beaulieu and Patrick Proulx receive instruction from professor Sylvain Gendron, far right, in hearth and chimney construction at the training school in Laval.

There are, of course, some advantages to being international: agents working for the bricklayers, a tool sales service, placement references, attorney references in certain cases, our presence on several committees, collective agreement negotiations, not to mention help with unemployment, CSST, MEDIC construction, trade jurisdiction, and our great involvement in the training programs.

Our affiliation with the international provides additional benefits, such as more job opportunities, with placement outside of Quebec, training for our agents, reduced prices for life insurance, the latest information on craft training, trade and legal news, college scholarships, the BAC Journal, consumer discount programs, and financial aid for raiding.

If you have colleagues who are ready to join us, ask them to vote on Thursday, June 8, Friday, June 9, or Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the CCQ office. Vote for CPQMC(I), i.e. the Quebec Provincial Council for Construction Trade (International), Local 4. Call us! We will be happy to help you.

Training and Job Performance Go Hand in Hand

Local 4 Quebec wants members to keep in mind the importance of quality of work and competence to employers. To improve craft skills and jobsite performance, members are encouraged to sign up for one of the many courses available through the Province’s school systems. If you have questions or need further information, please call Local 4 at (800) 982-4343 or (514) 327-4343.
