In Memory of Frank Perri
Issue 2 - 2006
The International Union and the members and officers of Local 4 Alberta mourn the loss of Local 4 Business Manager Frank Perri who died May 16th in Calgary. He was 57. “Brother Perri’s sudden death has been a shock to all of us,” said BAC Secretary-Treasurer James Boland, whose friendship with Perri dates back many years to their involvement in former Region 9 affairs. “His legacy will be one that earned him great respect during his lifetime of service to BAC – as a selfless trade unionist who valued the interests of Local 4 members above all else. His perspective was indispensable to the IU at an especially pivotal time in our efforts to shape a greater role for Canadian members and Locals in BAC affairs,” Boland added.
Born in Acri, Italy and a tile layer and marble mason by trade, Perri joined BAC in 1976. He began his Union service in 1986 as a Representative of Local 2 AB. In 1988, he helped establish and became Business Manager of the newly chartered Local 4 for tile and marble layers and finishers.
In addition to his many Local Union and Fund trustee duties, he was active in the Alberta building trades, and as a member of the Alberta Apprenticeship Committee representing the tile and marble industry. Brother Perri was also an active contributor to the International. He had served since 2000 as an elected Regional Vice President to the IU Executive Council, and as a Delegate to the IU Canadian Congress since 2001. He was also a delegate to several IU Conventions, including serving on the Convention Member Services Committee in 2005.
Survivors include his wife Jean, son Jason, daughter Denise, sister Maria, brother Aurelio, nieces, nephews, and family members in Italy.
