Local 1 Saskatchewan Celebrates Centennial
Issue 2 - 2007
On March 9, 2007, BAC Local 1 Saskatchewan held a Recognition Awards Reception in Regina to celebrate its 100th Anniversary as a BAC affiliate in the Province of Saskatchewan, and to pay tribute to its partners in the masonry industry.
The gala affair saw the intensely proud Local Union invoke the memory of Local 1 members who had gone before for their unyielding sacrifice and dedication in building the Local into a strong and thriving organization. Current apprentices and journey-level members were also recognized for their service and for their contributions to the Local.
In addition, BAC signatory contractors, area architects and engineers that design extensively with masonry, and four of the Province’s major owners/builders that favor masonry materials – Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, Saskatchewan Property Management, the University of Regina, and the University of Saskatchewan – were recognized and presented with handsome marble plaques.
Local 1 President Clarence Medernach accurately captured the sentiment of the evening when he said, “Having paid homage to its past, Local 1 eagerly embraces the opportunity to assist in building and maintaining the Province for the next 100 years and beyond.”
