Remembering Luciano Mascarin, Local 6 Ontario
Issue 4 - 2009

Retired President of Local 6 Ontario, Luciano (Lou) Mascarin, died at age 76 on July 20, 2009.  A native of Azzano Decimo, Italy, Brother Mascarin settled in Windsor, ON in 1952. Three years later, he joined Local 6 ON and worked as a bricklayer until he became Business Manager of the Local in 1979. During his tenure, he founded the Local’s first Medical Care Trust Fund to meet the health insurance needs of his members, and was actively involved in local, provincial and Canadian building trades bodies, with terms of service as President of the Essex & Kent County Building & Construction Trades Council, a board member of the Ontario Construction Safety Association, and the Ontario Masonry Safety Association. He was also an officer of  BAC’s Ontario Provincial Conference and a delegate to the International Union’s Canadian Congress.

Together with his wife Betty, Brother Mascarin founded the Luciana Spring Mascarin Educational Bursary in memory of their daughter Luciana, who died in 1991. The Bursary helps young adults with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus pursue their educational aspirations.

Brother Mascarin is survived by his beloved wife Betty, daughters Brenda Pizzano (Dan) and Kimberley Ionson (Steve Eck), and three grandchildren.
