2009 BCTD Canadian Legislative Conference

The focus of the Building and Construction Trades Department’s 2009 Canadian Legislative Conference, which was held in Ottawa, Ontario from May 3rd to 6th, was “Energy Jobs: Powering our Industry Tomorrow.” Seven BAC delegates joined representatives of building trades unions from across Canada to learn about the latest developments from federal and provincial government leaders and members of Parliament on issues ranging from new energy jobs in fields such as nuclear, solar, and hydroelectric power, and carbon capture and storage, to the role of Red Seal standards in new federally funded infrastructure projects.
The impact of Alberta’s oil sands on the country’s economic future, improvements in the Employment Insurance system, multi-employer pension issues and a number of other topics were also discussed.
