Local 39 OH President and general foreman Keith Montgomery assisted Ohio Governor Ted Strickland in laying the first ceremonial brick, signaling the beginning of the construction of 100 new coke ovens at the Haverhill North Coke Plant |
The Phase II Haverhill North Coke Plant, which will provide electricity for sale by converting coal into coke, will soon be fully operational thanks to the efforts of Locals 32 and 39 Ohio and 7 Kentucky of the Ohio Administrative District Council.
In May 2007, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland joined Local 39 OH President and general foreman Keith Montgomery and other dignitaries on the project to lay the first ceremonial brick to kick off the refractory brick portion of construction. BAC employment peaked at 163 bricklayers during the installation of 3.5 million refractory brick, which took only five months to complete. The labor-management focus on safety created an incident-free work environment.
To date, the project has generated more than 80,000 work-hours for BAC members. The entire project is scheduled for completion in August 2008.
