Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy

For more than 1,700 labor activists attending the AFL-CIO’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference in Memphis earlier this year, the most meaningful way to honor the late civil rights leader’s commitment to social and economic justice for all Americans is to keep that dedication in the forefront of their work as trade unionists. Conferees heard from AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, performed community service, and visited several Memphis landmarks of historic significance to Dr. King’s career.
BAC members attending the Conference included, from left, IMI Director of Market Development and Technical Services for the Indiana Area David Collins, Local 33 Georgia/North Carolina/South Carolina President James Stringer, IU Organizer Ernie Grubbs, Local 21 Illinois Business Agent Curtis Gilmore, and Local 6 Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama Secretary-Treasurer Anthony Gomez.
