Bricklayers Endorse Senator Barack Obama For President

[South Bend, IN] August 2, 2008 – The Executive Council of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) today voted unanimously to endorse Senator Barack Obama for President. BAC represents roughly 100,000 skilled masonry and trowel trades craftworkers in the U.S. and Canada.
Citing Senator Obama’s leadership on issues such as universal health care, rebuilding America’s infrastructure, passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, stamping out misclassification of workers by unscrupulous employers, and protecting prevailing wages for construction workers on federal projects, BAC President John J. Flynn stated, “BAC is proud to stand with Senator Obama, who has stood by working families during his years as a community organizer, as an Illinois state legislator, and in the United States Senate. He has the courage, conviction, experience and judgment to bring about the change America needs.”
The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the oldest continuous union in North America and represents roughly 100,000 skilled masonry-trowel trades craftworkers in the United States and Canada, including bricklayers, tile setters, cement masons, plasterers, stone masons, marble masons, restoration workers, and terrazzo and mosaic workers.
