BAC Leaders "Blitz" Across Houston

On May 6, the day before the South Regional Council meeting, a team of BAC leaders, including the IU Executive Board, hit the streets of Houston to speak with non-union bricklayers on a variety of jobsites, including schools, residential construction, and commercial sites.  

“These organizing blitzes are so important for us as a union. It’s our opportunity to meet workers where they are and explain to them how the union can positively change lives,” explained BAC Organizing Director Matthew Stafford. “We need to physically be at their jobsites and experience their working conditions and build personal connections from shared life experiences as construction workers.”  

Over the course of the day, the team traveled across Houston visiting job sites and engaging in conversations with workers. “This is one of the most effective ways of organizing workers,” continued Stafford. “Organizers shouldn’t be telling workers what they should be thinking but rather, listening to their experiences and see their struggles firsthand. That’s how we build relationships that last.”
