BAC150: Build - Adapt - Change
JOURNAL: ISSUE 3 - 2015
The coming weeks will not only be busy ones for our International Union but highly productive ones. On September 14th, nearly 270 delegates to the 2015 BAC Convention will gather in Baltimore to chart the course of our Union through 2020. In the days that follow, we will also commemorate the milestone 150th anniversary of the formation of our International Union, the oldest continuing trade union in North America.
The 2015 Convention theme, BAC150: Build - Adapt - Change, honors our rich history and craft traditions, our resiliency in the face of demagoguery, war, depression and downturns as a representational force for skilled trowel craftworkers, and our capacity not just to accept but to engage innovation to build a stronger, brighter future for our members and their families and for the new generation of craftworkers that follow.
In charting our Union’s course, the resolutions that Convention delegates will deliberate in Committee and on the Convention floor – many of which are submitted by the Executive Board – have been informed by the many conversations and exchanges my fellow Executive Board members and I have had with active and retired members across this great Union of ours. On jobsites, in Union halls, at service award presentations and retiree lunches, we thank you for your candor and forthrightness on the issues that matter to you most. Going back to our earliest Union documents, one thing that hasn’t changed one iota over the years is that BAC members never hold back and we’re stronger for it. In the meantime, happy Labor Day!
