Stonemason Francisco Lorenzo, a 37-year member of Local 1 Maryland/Virginia/DC, was inducted into the 2013 Washington Building Congress' (WBC) Hall of Fame in March in recognition of his "extraordinary dedication, exceptional skill, quality craftsmanship and enduring commitment" to his trade.
"You know you did the best you could, and it was recognized by somebody," Brother Lorenzo said. "I don't think people care as much as we did… Every job I worked on, it had to be perfect," he added.
Created in 2008, WBC's Craftsman Hall of Fame is a prestigious honor to permanently recognize the "best of the best" in the industry. Each year up to five tradesworkers may be nominated by the WBC Awards Committee. Brother Lorenzo won 13 awards in the category of masonry in 2012 alone.
