BAC Members Participated in 2023 Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference
Over 100 BAC members, Local officers, International Union staff, and International Masonry Institute staff attended the Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference held in Washington, D.C. on December 1-3, 2023.
The conference featured plenary sessions, workshops, a banner parade, and networking opportunities geared towards empowering tradeswomen. BAC sisters and leaders gathered for a union caucus during the conference, where they brainstormed mentorship ideas and discussed educational opportunities through BAC Sisters R.I.S.E. (Resource, Inclusion, Success, and Empowerment). BAC Sisters R.I.S.E. holds a monthly virtual educational forum. For more information and to sign up, email bacsistersrise@gmail.com.
BAC Local 3 MA/ME/NH/RI member Tonye Hayden Berry shared her union story and introduced NABTU President Sean McGarvey during a plenary session. Sister Hayden Berry comes from a union family – both of her parents and her aunt were in the trades, and her sister currently is as well. “I never imagined growing up I’d follow in their footsteps,” she remarked. “As I look around the room, I get emotional thinking about how far the trades have come. It’s been 13 long, good years. I’ve made it. I can now show my 13-year-old buildings that we drive by that we built,” she proudly shared.
