Leveraging Capital Strategies to Benefit Workers and Communities

Tom McIntyreInternational Union Representative Tom McIntyre, who also serves as Co-Chair of the Council of Institutional Investors (CII), promoted cooperation with investors to increase worker bargaining power when he spoke this year at the CII’s Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. A non-profit association of institutional investors, including 140 union and employee benefit plans, endowments, and foundations, CII promotes good governance practices and advocates for the interests of institutional investors.

Labor constituency clockThe conference gathered hundreds of CII members from across the globe to share their best practices on corporate governance. During the second day of the conference, brother McIntyre gave an introduction speech to AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, who offered her insights on the future of work and how best to protect the interests of workers, businesses, and shareholders in a rapidly changing economy.

“Labor unions and workers are indirectly impacted when it comes to promoting responsible investment practices,” McIntyre said. “Working together with institutional investors, we can leverage capital strategies to increase workers’ bargaining power, improve working conditions, and achieve better outcomes for our workers and communities.”
