Keith Hocevar was appointed by BAC President Tim Driscoll as International Union Executive Vice President in January 2023. Hocevar’s extensive experience in organizing, political advocacy, and union leadership has made him a respected leader in both the labor movement and the broader community.
Hocevar’s career in the masonry trade began in 1997, when he entered BAC as a bricklayer and cement mason apprentice in then-Local 16 Ohio. A talented and committed tradesperson, he was serving as a foreman shortly after journeying out of his apprenticeship in 1999. At the same time, he also began his long career of union service – first as a steward on jobs throughout his local union, and eventually as Political Coordinator and Vice President of Local 16.
In 2007, Hocevar was appointed as a Field Representative for the BAC Ohio/Kentucky Administrative District Council (OH/KY ADC), which he also served as Political Director, Organizing Director, and ultimately as a Vice President. During his tenure with the ADC, Hocevar set himself apart with his tireless commitment to both internal and external organizing, building a team of local rank-and-file activists and stewards to strengthen the ADC’s political and organizing activities.
BAC President James Boland tapped Hocevar to serve as an IU Representative for the North Central Region in 2015, and in 2017, Hocevar was appointed as North Central Regional Director. As Regional Director, his attention to data-driven organizing and his establishment of concrete metrics for evaluation of growth initiatives were integral to the Region’s success.
In addition to his work with the union, Hocevar has a bachelor’s degree in science from John Carrol University and is also a Graduate of the 2019 Class of the Harvard University Trade Union Program and the 2024 Class of the Cornell University National Labor Leader Initiative.
As Executive Vice President, Hocevar has taken the lead on BAC’s internal organizing efforts, working both at the IU and local level to foster unionism at every level of the organization. Along with his leadership at the IU, he also serves as a Trustee on the BAC International Pension Fund (IPF), the BAC International Health Fund (IHF), and the International Masonry Institute (IMI).
