America’s Schools Need an Overhaul

BAC Supports the Reintroduction of the Rebuilding America’s Schools Act

[Washington, D.C.] – The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) applauds Representatives Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) and Donald Norcross (D-NJ) for reintroducing the Rebuild America’s Schools Act yesterday.

 
The legislation would invest $100 billion in grants and $30 billion in bond authority targeted at fixing or rebuilding schools in high-poverty areas with facilities that pose direct health and safety risks to students and staff. It is estimated to create over 2 million jobs.

 
“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 addressed the dangerous and deteriorating conditions of America’s roads and bridges to ensure our country’s competitiveness for future generations. Now, our nation’s schools deserve the same investment,” said BAC President Timothy J. Driscoll. “Every day over 50 million students, and 3 million teachers and school workers are in classrooms and facilities that pose unsafe and shameful conditions. Our country’s children deserve better.

“The investment provided by the Rebuild America’s Schools Act will also generate millions of good-paying jobs and boost local economies across our country,” Driscoll continued. “We will work diligently with members of both houses of Congress and the White House to move this important legislation to the President’s desk. The time to invest in our learning infrastructure and future generations is  now.”
