IUBAC President Tim Driscoll Urges the House to Pass H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act
IUBAC President Tim Driscoll issues the following statement in support of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act:
On behalf of the 75,000 members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (IUBAC), I am proud to support H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act. The Moving Forward Act provides a much-needed investment of more than 1.5 trillion dollars to help rebuild our nation’s infrastructure. This investment is long overdue. The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on our economy, and any meaningful recovery will depend on our ability to create good paying jobs.
The Moving Forward Act provides the resources to create jobs in a comprehensive way, including investments in transportation, energy, schools, health care, and housing. BAC is particularly pleased that the bill includes the Rebuild America’s Schools Act, which provides $130 billion to improve our nation’s school infrastructure and ensures that our students and teachers can go to schools that are safe and conducive to learning. The legislation also restores Build America Bonds that will reduce the cost of borrowing for states and local governments and leverage additional funding for job-creating infrastructure investment. Finally, since it is critical that we create jobs that pay good and fair wages, the strong Davis-Bacon language contained in this bill will help ensure that workers are fairly compensated. I urge the House to pass H.R. 2 to address our crucial infrastructure needs and help put America back to work.
